Мемориальный комплекс Великой Отечественной Войны занимает площадь свыше 10 гектар. В него входят музей Второй Мировой Войны с монументом «Родина-мать», главная площадь с Аллеей Городов-героев и скульптурными композициями «Форсирование Днепра» и «Передача оружия», галерея героев фронта и тыла с бронзовыми горельефными композициями, чаша «Огонь Славы», выставка боевой техники.
В отдельных здании развернуты постоянно действующие реликвийные экспозиции «Трагедия и доблесть Афганистана», «На чужих войнах».
Мемориальный комплекс Великой Отечественной Войны был открыт в 1981 году на днепровских склонах. Главный экспозиционный корпус комплекса — трехэтажное здание музея Великой Отечественной Войны с площадью перед ним, которая вмещает до 30 тысяч человек. Здание музея является одновременно пьедесталом для монумента «Родина-мать», обращенного лицом к Днепру. Величественное сооружение выполнено из листовой нержавеющей стали.
На одной из открытых площадок мемориального комплекса открыта выставка боевой техники и вооружения. На ней представлены образцы военной техники периода Великой Отечественной войны и послевоенных лет. Посетители могут не только осмотреть извне, но и подняться на борт транспортного самолета Ли-2, посетить кабину реактивного истребителя МиГ-23 и сесть за штурвал вертолета Ми-24В.
